How to Get
Google to List Your Site
Do you have a website and yet no matter what
you do you just can't seem to find your site in Google? Today
I'm going to talk about two different issues involving finding
your website in the search engines.
-
How to
Get Google to Visit Your Site with Days
-
How to
Get Google to List Your Site so You Can Be Found by
Your Customers.
Let's cover the first issue. Getting Google to
visit your site within days. The first thing you need to do is
check to see if your URL or website address
(URL) is currently listed with Google.
Go to Google and type your URL into the
search box. Does it appear in the search results? If the answer
is no, do not dispare.
There are a variety of reasons why your site
may not appear. Just to make sure you're not over eager here,
unless you are extremly search engine optimization savvy, you
probably won't get listed within a week or even a month.
The fastest I've been listed in 72 hours. This
site was listed in 6 days. I was busy with other things so
that's actually sort of slow for me. You can get listed in as
little as a few hours, but the goal isn't to get listed in
hours, it's to get listed in a relatively short period of time,
like within a few weeks. It is also important to be "properly"
listed. But that's another topic for another day.
So, let's just say that a few weeks have past
and it's still not listed.
Okay, now we can get down to business. Google
needs to know that your site is online but unless you have a
referral from another site that Google has visited recently,
your site may not be listed for months. In fact most people
will have to wait months for this to happen.
One of the easiest ways to get Google to visit
your site is by writing a press release or some article about
your business and submitting the article or press release
to an article directory or a website that submits press
releases. Either one will do the trick.
Okay, to sum up:
Submit an article featuring your new business,
something helpful, good tips, why you're so special, etc..
Submit a press release, free is fine, read the
directions, it's important to format your release properly in
order to be accepted. Look for the option to submit it free,
they try to convince you to donate, but your goal is to get
listed in the search engines, not to be the topic of
conversation on CNN.
Article directories are free as well. One of
the top article directory is EzineArticles.com. Google sends
it's little robot over to this directory several times a day so
if you write a great article and it's featured on the main
page, Google will find your site URL in your author box. Once
the robot finds your URL it will go to your site and spider
it's way through it.
There are websites dedicated to understanding
all the in's and out's of getting listed. You can usually
achieve a new site listing within 4 to 6 days by
submitting an article or press release.
A Note of Caution:
All websites are not created equal. Your
website needs to be created in a very specific way in order for
the GoogleBot to enjoy it's little visit to your site. Think of
the GoogleBot like a VIP coming to visit. You need to
leave not just a "good" impression, you need to have that
GoogleBot totally jazzed about what it found on your site.
Recap:
It is important to properly structure you site.
Navigation is for both people and the search engine robots.
Badly structured sites will be poorly listed and sometimes
overlooked or forgotten.
