Black hat search engine optimization is a term that is used to describe methods a webmaster uses in order to fool the search engines into believing they have the more relevant site for any given keyword/keyword phrase.

SEO (search engine optimization) is the different between having your web site gain traffic sent from search engines like Google, and gaining little if any traffic. The main reason why most websites never gain any visibility in the search engines is due to poor SEO.

What is black hat seo? This is another method of search engine optimization that involves using methods not approved of by the search engines. Using these methods is risky and without a doubt going to get your site removed from a highly desired search engine like Google.

Some of the unwanted techniques are called black hat. These include creating doorway pages, cloaking, spamming in a variety of ways, using link farms and so on. The list of black hat methods is constantly changes because these methods become outdated very quickly and the designers of these black hat methods need to think of new ways to fool the search engines.

Should You Use Black Hat SEO?

In fact if you are thinking of using a black hat method, being tempted by the claim to make money fast, you really need to rethink your strategy. Remember the old story about the slow turtle and the blazing fast rabbit? The turtle wins because he's not distracted by glory. Just because something is slower, it doesn't mean it's not worthy of use. Just because it's faster it doesn't mean it will last longer.

Black Hat Methods Come and Go

Let me give you an example. A few years ago there were a lot of black hat programs created. Some of them were very pricy. What people did not know is that by the time these programs are sold online to the public, the program being sold was to them had run it's course. It was no longer valuable to the black hat user. The money to be made now was in selling the "idea" of gaining a high page position though using an old outdated black hat technique. 

You see, people don't sell their BEST techniques until they have outrun their usefulness. Ugly ad evil as that may sound, it's true. So, if you decide to buy some blog and ping spammer or robot that will do some type of cloaking for you, it is probably way out of date and it will help you VERY little.

Think about it. If you had the golden goose, would you tell anyone else about that goose while it was laying 10 golden eggs a day, or perhaps sell that goose when you realized it was no longer producing golden eggs but once every week knowing that soon it would no longer produce a single egg?

The value is in the "idea", not in the actual method or product being sold.
