What is top priority for helping your
business survive during times of economic
recession? More people learning about your
business and or services. The more customers
you have, the more your business can grow.
Would your business benefit from new customers
who live within your local territory? Many
businesses do not realize just how powerful and
profitable the Internet can be in the area of
local traffic.
With the proper utilization of the search
engines like Google, MSN and Yahoo, your
business can gain new customers that would
otherwise select a competitor to serve their
needs..
How? By gaining more visibility in the search
engines than your competition you will have a
larger audience.
It is not difficult to understand the concept
of greater traffic coming from a business
located in a highly trafficked area. For
instance if you have an office right in the
heart of town your business will gain greater
visibility to potential customers than if your
office was hidden away in some remote part of
town where no one can see it.
The same applies when it comes to gaining new
customers by means of the Internet. In order to
gain a substantial amount of new customers
through the Internet, you need to have a
website and it needs to be located in an area
that receives traffic.
As obvious as that may sound, you would be
amazed at just how many people do not have a
website to represent their produces, services
and or business. And although many people have
taken that step and built a website for their
business, they have no idea that their websites
are invisible to potentially hundreds if not
thousands of new customers because their site
is in a sense, invisible. They have totally
overlooked the one thing that every website
owner needs to do in order for their customers
to locate them online.
What could make such a huge difference?
Search engine visibility. More and more people
are turning to Internet search engines like
Google, Yahoo and MSN to find local services
and businesses. Your website may be listed in
every one of these search engines. At this
point you may be thinking, “My site is listed
in those search engines.” However, there is a
difference between being listed and being
visible.
Let me give you an example. I live in Redding,
Ca. Some good friends of mine own a local
restaurant. However, the only way you will find
that restaurant in Google is if you type in the
actual domain name of their restaurant. You
won’t find their website by typing in the type
of food they offer.
Although it is important to have a website, it
does not offer a lot of benefits to the owner
if their website is not properly listed in
the three main search engines people
are using to locate products and services they
need. In order to improve this situation a
website owner needs to do one of two
things.
Hire someone to help optimize their website for
search engine traffic or do it themselves. The
problem with doing it yourself is that it is
time consuming and it is not an easy subject to
conquer. It can be quite frustrating and
financially burdensome as well. As you know,
do-it-yourself projects are not always going to
involve just your time. It also involves paying
for the knowledge to accomplish your desired
goal.
And I should also mention that due to many
unscrupulous search engine optimization hounds
using black hat (illegal) methods to boost
their search engine positions, the rules to
maintaining a good position in these search
engines change quite frequently. So, more time
is required to learn how to keep up with these
changes.
The time saving solution is to hire a search
engine optimization specialist (SEO). A good
SEO specialist will help you understand how to
gain more visibility through keyword search
terms.
I’ll be covering some tips on how to find a
quality SEO specialist in my next article on
search engine optimization. Because when it
comes to SEO, all SEO services are not created
equal and many people pay for services they
never get.
Stay tuned and learn one of the most
important things about SEO as it relates to
your website and your business.
